MR. J. ASHTON - MISS ALMA LESTER
The Rev, N. Kemp Welch officiated at the wedding at St. Michael's Church, Tilehurst, on Saturday [12 Aug 1944], Of Mr. John Edward Ashton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ashton, of 2, Kent Cottages, Riseley. and Miss Alma Gertrude Irene Lester, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Lester, of 61, Lyndhurst Road. Reading.
Given away by her father, the bride wore a white satin and lace gown, with veil held in place by an orange blossom head-dress. Her shower bouquet was of deep red carnations. The bridesmaids were Miss Sylvia Lester (bride's sister) and MISS Doris Bryant. Miss Lester wore & peach satin gown with blue trimmings and carried & Victorian posy, while Miss Bryant wore a blue taffeta gown with head dress to match. and carried a bouquet of pink carnations. Mr. Alec Kyle was best man.
