        Ex-Mayoress dies in road crash
        An inquest was opened at Yeovil this week into the death of Mrs. Pearl Evelyn Goodearl, aged 52, wife of Mr. Alan Goodearl, of Tramark, Chapel Lane South, Barrow,
        Mrs. Goodearl died in a road accident last week. Her car was crushed at Sparkford Bridge on the A303.
        The Coroner, Mr. Fenton Rutter, said that death was caused by cerebral lacerations from a fractured skull, and adjourned the hearing to a date to be fixed.
        Mrs. Goodearl had served as Mayoress of High Wycombe when her husband was Mayor. They moved to Somerset a few years ago. Mr. Goodearl, a Methodist local preacher, is well known in the Somerset Mission Circuit, which covers Mid Somerset.
        The funeral took place on Wednesday.

        Mystery of crash is unsolved
        The reason why Mrs. Pear' Goodearl, aged 52, of Tramark. Chapel Lane, South Barrow drove her car out of a side road into the path of a lorry without stopping remains a mystery after the inquest at Wincanton last week.
        A student, Michael Sinclair, of Church Farm, South Barrow said he was being given a lift in Mrs. Goodearl's car. At Sparkford she was travelling between 10 and 20 m.p.h. as she approached a main road, but she went straight out across the main road into the path of a lorry.
        Shortly before the crash, in which Mrs. Goodear died, she said that she was unable to stop. but did not say why.
        A policeman said that an examination of the car had revealed no defects which would have caused the accident.
        A verdict of misadventure was returned. Mrs. Goodearl, a former Mayoress of High Wycombe. was the wife of Mr. W. A. Goodearl a well-known Methodist local preacher in Somerset.
