ERRING MARGATE WIFE
DOUBLE WAR-TIME LAPSE DURING HUSBANDS ABSENCE
Another local domestic tragedy of the war period was unfolded to Mr Justice HORRIDGE in the divorce court, when Mr William Percy WAINWRIGHT, bricklayer, of Byron Road, Margate, petitioned for a decree dissolving hismarriage with his wife Rose Annie WAINWRIGHT.
Petitioner, who said he was married at St John's church, Margate, on December 24th 1910, and added that there was one child of the marriage, stated that he enlisted in Aug. 1914, and went to India. He did not return until December 1915, but a week afterwards his wife gave birth to a child. Forgiving her for the misconduct, he returned to his depot in January 1916. Six months later she wrot to him saying, @Well dear husband, I don't know if you will forgive me once again, when I tell you I have been unfaithful to you, I have had a son.' On petitioners return to Margate in September 1919, he identified his wife's signature in the births register.
A decree nisi was granted, the petitioner to have custody of the child of the marriage.Note - I think the 'six months later' may be wrong? with the birth of another child - Henry - in 1918 rather than 1916?
