BANK HOLIDAY CHARGES. Harry Gower, of Tring, charged with being drunk at Tring on August 2nd, pleaded not guilty. P.C. Titmus stated that about 7.15 p.m. he was in Mr. Dawes's park at a fete, or entertainment, and was called by Mr. Penn to remove a drunken man named Henry Green from the refreshment booth, and did so, when defendant pulled off his cont and was about to strike him, but someone pulled him away. Defendant was quite drunk. Green was sent out, and defendant left with his friends.-Defendant said he bad his jacket off, as he had been playing at quoits just before. He saw the two policemen, Freeman and Titmus, on the top of Green on the ground, and only pulled Freeman off. He called Mrs. Green, who said her name was Cutler, and she was Harry Green's sister. She saw the police removing him from the booth, and also saw Gower at quoits five minutes before with his coat off, but she did not see the row.-Mrs. Lucy Stratford, sister of defendant, said she was in the Park when the police threw Green down, and her brother Harry pulled Freeman off him. They knocked "another young woman down too." - The Chairman: Who else was there -Witness: Thomas Montague. - Thos. Montague was then called and said he had been playing with Gower, and they went into the booth to have some beer; he was sober, and of course knew what he was doing, Titmus and Freeman knocked Green down and Gower pulled Titmus off him. Green did not fall owing to his boot catching against the ropes of the booth.- By Supt. Pearson: Witness was turned out of the booth himself. - A fine of 1s. 6d. and 12s.6d. costs was inflicted; in default, ten days! imprisonment.
