        THE COAL STRIKE.
BAINES AND Son, coal merchants. of High Wycombe, v. JOHN BASS, of Chinnor: claim. £8 12s. 2d. for coal supplied. - Mr. B. L. Reynolds appeared for plaintiffs, and stated that they sent defendant some coal early in January, 1894, and he ordered another truck of the same sort, which was delivered on the 23rd of that month. It was the coal delivered on this date which formed the subject of the action. At that time there was a strike in the coal trade, prices were high, and there was a great demand for coal. This was doubtless why defendant wanted a second lot so quickly. Shortly afterwards the strike came to an end, prices fell, and this perhaps explained why defendant disputed the account.-Defendant said the coal was not of the quality ordered. He found this out as soon as he started delivering the second load, and complained about it. - Mr. C. T. Baines said he heard nothing of the complaint until three months afterwards, when he had sent in the account the second time. The coal came from the same colliery as the first lot, and was invoiced to him as the same kind of coal. He told defendant that such a long time had elapsed that he could not complain to the colliery.-Defendant. in reply to his Honour, said it was a fortnight after he found out that the coal was bad that he complained to plaintiffs. - Judgment for the plaintiffs for the amount claimed.
