MEMORIAL SERVICE. At White Hart-street Primitive Methodist Chapel on Sunday evening last, Councillor A. W. Nash, by request, conducted a memorial service for the late Mr. Thomas Stratford. There was a large congregation, and the service was very impressive. Mr. Nash preached an eloquent sermon from Isaiah xlvi.. 4. And even to your old age I am he," and alluded to the late Mr. Stratford as the last of the old Methodists, who, when the roll of the heroes was called, would be found among them. Sixty-five years ago Mr. Strat- ford was converted in the room above Barton's slaughter-house, in Easton-street, amongst those present at that service being William Woodley, J. Nottingham, and Thomas Pierce, all of whom passed away long since, Mr. Stratford joined the Society at old Frogmoor Chapel (the building now occupied by the Salvation Army). He was a Methodist of the old type, And in his last message to the preacher he en- forced the necessity of keeping up the old-time services. At this juncture, the congregation sang one of deceased's favourite hymns "There is a land of pure delight." Mr. Nash also alluded to Mr. Stratford as a business man, who had his ups and downs, but although some people would consider that he died poor, yet he (Mr. Nash) felt that he died rich. At the close of the service Mr. Walter Varley (organist) played "Angels ever bright and fair."

South Bucks Standard 25 August 1899
An old and respected Wycombe townsman, Mr. Thomas Stratford, of Frogmore Gardens, is get- ting gay in his declining years. He is 83 years of age, and weighs eighteen stone. Recently he has adopted the tricycle as a means of obtaining exercise, and yesterday afternoon he might have been seen careering gaily along the Hughenden- road. A lady came by and jokingly challenged the old gentleman to race, which the veteran accepted. Off came his coat, and up went his shirt sleeves, and the race began, Mr. Stratford exerting his utmost strength to come in first. The contest was hard and fast, and the veteran virtually won by a neck, his fair opponent being the first to congratulate him on his victory.
