Monks Risborough
WEDDING OF MISS D. M. DEAN
The wedding took place at Monks Risborough Parish Church on Saturday [15th] of Miss Deborah Mary Dean, only daughter of Major and Mrs. E. H. Dean, of Icknield, Princes Risborough, and Mr. Sidney Howard Long, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. James Long, of Trowbridge, Wilts. The service was conducted by the Rev. E. Ellis Roberts, Rector of Monks Risborough. The church was decorated with gladioli, sweet peas, larkspur and carnations in mauve, pink and blue, to tone with the bridal bouquet and buttonholes. Miss Salmon was at the organ, and four hymns and the 37th Psalm were sung. The organist also played voluntaries, and a peal of six bells was sung after the ceremony.
The bride wore a gown of silver brocade, with long tight-fitting sleeves, square neck and Medici collar, a high- waisted bodice with full trailing skirt, a headdress of orange blossom and a veil of old Brussels lace of Limerick design, kindly loaned by a friend of the family, a Court dressmaker. The bride carried a shower bouquet of pale pink
roses.
The chief bridesmaid was Miss Margaret Thompson, an old college friend of the bride, and the other bridesmaids were Miss Ethel Spencer, niece of the bridegroom, and Miss Barbara Dean, cousin of the bride. Ann Dean, a niece of the bride, was a child bridesmaid and Robert Long, nephew of the bridegroom, was page. The elder bridesmaids wore gowns of pale blue silk, veiled with mauve net. They had halo headdresses, with net and flowers, to tone with the dresses. Ann Dean wore a dress of pale blue organdie, and the page wore a pale blue silk blouse and velvet knickers.
The bridegroom's gifts to the elder bridesmaids were pendants; a gold brooch to Ann Dean and a silver pencil to the page.
The bride was given away by her father, and the best man was Mr. Stephen Utting.
After the ceremony, there was a reception in a marquee on the lawn at Icknield, and later Mr. and Mrs. Long left by car for London en route for their honeymoon in Cornwall. For travelling the bride wore a blue spotted crepe de chene gown, a white hat with blue trimmings, a platinum fox fur and a long camel coat.
