Hutchinson Chapman (23), of Ogden Street, was fined five shillings at Sunder- land Police Court to-day for selling cigarettes after hours, and a further five shillings for selling them to a child under the age of 16 years.
Edward Day (49), Johnson Street, the shopkeeper, had to pay five shillings on an accusation of aiding and abetting.
P.C. Harper said Chapman sold a packet of cigarettes to a girl, 12 years of age, three-quarters of an hour after time. Day said he knew nothing about the sale.
