DOCTOR FINED £10. LOSES LICENCE FOR YEAR.
DRINKS AT A HOSPITAL.
Drinks at a hospital were mentioned when Dr. David Maurice Dean, aged 25, of Queen's Gardens. Ealing, London, W. said to be resident medical officer of St. Luke's Hospital for the Clergy, Fitzroy Square was charged at Sutton on Thursday with driving a car while under the influence of drink or drugs.
He pleaded guilty, and was fined £10. He was ordered to pay £1 11s 6d costs and his licence was suspended for a year.
It was stated that in the early morning of December 16. Dr. Dean was seen driving a car at the junction of Devonshire Road and Brighton Road. Sutton. The car swerved, struck a kerb and went up the road in a zig-zag manner.
"DRIVING WAS VERY ERRATIC."
A policeman cycled after him and shouted to him to stop, but he accelerated and his driving was very erratic. When finally stopped he stumbled and caught hold of the policeman. He was unable to walk on to the footway without assistance. In his overcoat pocket was a tankard and four empty bottles.
The divisional police surgeon, Dr. L. B. Maxwell, said he examined Dr. Dean at 3-10 a.m., and in his opinion he was definitely under the influence of drink to an extent as to be unfit to drive.
It was submitted on Dr. Dean's behalf that he was suffering from the after effects of jaundice.
It was stated that he had played Rugby in the afternoon, and with a doctor friend had gone to Queen Mary's Hospital, Carshalton, where they had one or two glasses of beer.

LYNN DOCTOR IN NAVAL MANOEUVRES.
Dr. David M. Dean, of King-st., Lynn. who is a surgeon lieut.-commander in the Royal Naval Reserve, was on Thurs- day catapulted in an aeroplane from his ship to attend an injured stoker in a destroyer during the manoeuvres in the North Sea.
The destroyer Keith was travelling at speed, pursuing the "enemy," when the stoker was scalded. The Keith's com- mander asked the 10.000-ton cruiser Corn- wall, also steaming at speed, for assistance. Dr. Dean, who is doing his annual train- ing in the Cornwall, volunteered to be shot off in an aeroplane and to be hoisted on board the Keith without stopping the exercises. The destroyer was moving at twelve knots as he was hauled on board with his emergency kit,
Later in the evening, during a pause in the exercises, the injured man was transferred in a stretcher to the Cornwall and hoisted on board by the crane which lifts the ship's aeroplane,
