INTERESTING WEDDING IN WYCOMBE.
A very pretty wedding, in which considerable interest centred, took place in Wycombe on Wednesday, at the Wesleyan Church, Priory-road. The contracting parties were Mr. Owen Thomas Barfield, younger son of Mr. Thomas Barfield and Mrs. Barfield, of Marycroft, Priory-avenue, and Miss Rhoda Ellen Goodearl, fourth daughter of Mr. Alderman Richard Goodearl and Mrs. Goodearl, of Belmont, Priory-avenue. The ceremony took place at 1.30, by which hour the church was well-filled with friends and acquaintances of the contracting parties, the high esteem in which both families are held also accounting in some degree for the very large congregation.
The paving from the road to the church doors was covered with scarlet cloth, and the interior of the church had been nicely decorated for the occasion. The organist (Mr. B. Woodbridge) played appropriate music while the guests and the general public were assembling. The service was choral, the majority of the members of the church choir being present, and the hymns sung were "The voice that breathed o'er Eden" and "Saviour, let Thy sanction rest." The officiating ministers were the Rev. T. H. Penrith (Circuit Supereminent) and the Rev. R. Philipson, of Peterborough, who at one time was also Superintendent of the High Wycombe Wesleyan Circuit, and is a very old friend of both families. The nuptial knot was tied by the Rev. T. H. Penrith. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a dress of white China silk, trimmed with Mechlin lace, with veil and orange blossom. She also wore a gold necklace, with pendant, and carried a handsome shower bouquet, the gifts of the bridegroom. She was attended by Miss Goodearl, her eldest sister, and Miss Barfield, sister of the bridegroom. as her principal bridesmaids. They were becomingly attired in white muslin over blue, with black chiffon hats trimmed with pink roses, and they carried bouquets of roses. The bride also had as bridesmaids her sisters Annie, Edith, and Florence Goodearl, who wore blue muslin dresses, with fichus, and black crinoline hats trimmed with marguerites, and she carried bouquets of marguerites. All the brides- maids wore gold brooches. the gift of the bride- groom. as also were the bouquets. The duties of best man were discharged by Mr. Harold Bar- field, brother of the bridegroom. The wedding party left the church to the accompaniment of the strains of Mendelssohn's Wedding March, finely played by Mr. Woodbridge. The reception was afterwards held at Belmont, Priory-avenue, to which over fifty guests were invited. The wedding cake a handsome structure-was the work of Mr. G. Kempster, of Easton-street. After the wedding group had been photographed, the happy pair left by the 5.25 train for Scotland, where the honeymoon is being spent. The presents were very numerous and costly, and some of them in particular testified to the great popularity of the bride among a very wide circle of friends. The members of the Wesley Choir. of which she is a member. presented her with a costly biscuit barrel, bearing a suitable inscription, while the friends at London-road Wesleyan Chapel, whereat she has for some years past rendered much appreciated services as organist and Sunday School teacher, gave her a silver cake basket, together with a photograph of the numerous contributors to the gift. Her own Sun- day School class of girls at London-road presented her with a silver butter dish and knife, while the Young Women's Class at Wesley Church, Priory- road, of which she is a member, subscribed towards a handsome jam dish.
