        RAYDON.
        A Child Scalded to Death.
An inquest was held on Friday, at Raydon, before R. L. Gross, Esq., coroner, on the body of Martha Ann James, aged 15 months.-Mr. Muriel, surgeon, Hadleigh, said on Tuesday evening last he was called in to see deceased. He found her suffering from a severe scald on the chest and upper part of the body. He prescribed for her. The next day she was in a state of collapse, and he feared she would not recover. She was a healthy child, and died entirely from the in- juries she had sustained by the scald. Amelia James, deceased's mother, described the accident. On Tues-day evening deceased ran into the next house. Witness heard a scream and ran into the house, where she found that a cup of boiling water which had been standing on the table had been knocked down and broken, and the water had fallen on to deceased's chest, scalding it very much. Witness had been standing at the door talking to her neighbour, in whose house it occurred. Deceased lingered till about four o'clock yesterday morning. It is supposed that she pulled the cup off the table. - The jury returned a verdict of “Accidental death."
