INQUEST.
The county coroner, A. D. Bartlett, Esq., sat at the Swan Inn, Brightwell, on Tuesday, to inquire into the cause of the death of Harriet Harvey, aged 35 years, the wife of John Harvey, of that village, bricklayer.- Mary Wetherall, of Brightwell, widow, said deceased was her daughter. She was confined on Monday morning between two and three o'clock. Witness, lived near deceased, and had seen her for the previous two or three months every day, and was in the house at the time of the confinement. She had met with no accident. Mrs. Cottrell, an experienced nurse, was also in attendance at the birth. About half-an-hour after deceased was confined she called witness, and said, "Oh, mother, I am dying." There was nothing wrong during the confinement. Her daughter had been suffering from dropsy the last seven years, and she believed that was the cause of death. She died in about half-an-hour after witness went to her. A doctor was sent for, but death took place before his arrival. The doctor said it was a weak heart.-Elizabeth Cottrell, of the same village, widow, who had known deceased for many years, said she attended deceased, and had done so in three previous confinements. She knew deceased suffered from dropsy. The confinement was in every way regular, but about a quarter-of-an-hour afterwards she complained of being faint. Witness gave her some brandy in tea. Deceased became in violent pain in her stomach and said she should die. Mr. Green was immediately sent for, but she died ten minutes before his arrival. Witness was of opinion that the dropsical state in which deceased was in was the cause of death. Deceased leaves a family of five children. Verdict, "Death from natural causes."
