        School Teachers Second Marriage
George William LANGFORD, 37, school teacher, of Perham Road, West Kensington, was charged with bigamously marrying Violet Emily WHITE at Fulham Register on March 20th 1926, his lawful wife, Ellen Agnes LANGFORD, being then and now alive. Det. - Sergt. MARTIN stated he arrested accused on Saturday at his address, when, on being told the charge, he said "Very well, it places me in a rather awkard position." The first wife, whose maiden name was GRUNDY, stated that she was married to defendant at Lindfield, Sussex, in January 1919, and they lived together until October 1923. Miss White said when she went through the cermony of marriage the defendant told her he was a single man; they lived as husband and wife until his arrest. In court, Langford said that his marriage with Miss GRUNDY wasnever consummated despite his wishes. "After 7 years," he continued, "I made a home for the second woman believing that I was free to do so." The magistrate committed him for trial at the Central Criminal Court, accepting a surety for him in £20.
