FOUND DEAD ON THE ROAD AT ASTON ROWANT. -On Tuesday the Coroner for South Oxfordshire held an inquest at Aston Rowant on the body of George Surman, who was found lying on the Aston Hill-road quite dead. Elias Britnets [Britnell?] stated that he was going down the hill on Monday evening with his cart of faggots, and that deceased was going the same way with a wagon laden with timber, drawn by two horses. Witness stopped to shift some of his faggots, and de- ceased went on. In less than five minutes witness found Surman lying in the road apparently quite dead. He had seemed to be quite well.-P.s. Surman said that he removed the body in a cart to the "Lambert Arms. -The widow stated that deceased was not subject to fits, and except for a headache the day before he seemed to be well. It had been found that two ribs on the left side of the body were fractured. The horses were met by the Station Master of the Aston Rowant Station going quietly along the road, about a quarter of a mile from where deceased was lying.-The jury returned a verdict of "Found dead with fractured ribs, probably from the wheels of the laden wagon passing over the body, but of this there is no positive evidence.'
