Kingston Blount Engine Driver
H. J. HILL of Kingston Blount, appealed on behalf of Robert C SURMAN (aged 21), engine driver, re-pairer of agricultrual implements, rick builder and cattleman. The Thame Rural Tribunal were of opinion that the number of men in the employ of the appellant was proportionatley larger per acre than that of most of the cases which had come before them, and that a large proportion being young men, the Tribunal had no option but to send a man, and SURMAN not being in a certified occupation should be one of those sent. The Tribunial admitted that, the farm having so large a proportion of arable land, the loss to the appellant was serious.
Mr HILL said SURMAN had had 4 1/2 months exemption and that had now expired. He had been passed for service abroad. He had undergone an operation, one of his toe nails having been taken off. Appellant had 13 men in his employ. SURMAN was supporting his widowed mother, who was between 50 and 60.
Ny Capt. BAILEY: Besides the 13 men he had mentioned, he had three boys. One son had been killed at the front and another (17) assisted him. He had 470 acres of land.
The appeal was didallowed, the Chairman remarking that they could not give any further extension.

Longwick Parish Council
A letter was received from Oxford Motor Services LTD enclosing a copy of a letter sent to the Commissioners for the East Midland area wit reference to the provision of a bus service for Longwick village. A letter also was read from the president of the Longwick WI who also had taken up the matter of insufficent transport facilities. This letter stated that Mr SURMAN of Chinnor had received instructions from the Traffic Commissioners to provide a daily bus service for Longwick, and asked the council what time it wouldbe convenient for the bus to run.
After consideration the meeting decided that Messers WALKER and POPE together with representaives of the Womens Instituts should discuss the matter with Mr SURMAN.
