DRUNK IN CHARGE OF A MOTOR CAR.
        A VICTIM TO NEURALGIA.
George Fowler, of Bangor's Cottages, Iver, was summoned at Slough on Wednesday for being drunk whilst in charge of a motor car at High Street, Slough, on May 8th.- Defendant pleaded guilty.- P.C. Reynolds said at 10.30 p.m. he was on duty at the Cross Roads at the top of the Windsor Road, and saw defendant driving a motor car backwards into High Street. In trying to get the car round the corner the wheel went on to the foot path. Seeing defendant had not proper control of the car and was the worse for drink, witness went to him and requested him to get out of the car, which, after some hesitation he did. Witness then found he was very drunk and took him to the Police Station where he was charged with being drunk in charge of a motor car, to which he made no reply.
Defendant said he had been mad with neuralgia and took a drop of whisky to relieve the pain. He had been suffering about three weeks, and during the latter part of the week the pain was almost unbearable. The Rev. W. E. Gilliat, vicar of Iver, confirmed the excellent character defendant bore. He understood defendant had been a teetotaller for some months past and probably anything he took would have a greater effect upon him than otherwise. He also understood defendant had been suffering from neuralgia so that it was not quite ordinary circumstances.
The Chairman said defendant had pleaded guilty to a most serious offence and one in which the Bench was generally disposed to inflict imprisonment without the option of a fine. It was a very grave offence and en- dangered very much the safety of the public for a man who was drunk to be in charge of a motor car. Defendant, however had previously borne a good character and they hoped it was only a temporary lapse, and that it was due in a measure to the reason stated.-Defendant would be fined £2 and costs or in default one month's imprisonment

The maid married the gardener 50 years ago
SMILING happily while celebrating their golden wedding on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. George Fowler of 1, Bangors-cottages Norwood-lane, Iver Heath, aged 71 and 72 respectively.
She met her husband when he came to do some gardening at the house in which she was a domestic servant-and there began the romance which has now reached its fiftieth year.
        MOTOR ENGINEER
They were married August 31 in Ewelme parish church by Canon Cruttwell. Born in Upminster, Mr. Fowler later went to live at North Enfield. For a time he worked at the Ediswan electrical factory and then became a motor engineer. For the past 15 years he was with Road Research at Colnbrook until he was forced to retire.
An Old Contemptible, he served with the Army Service Corps as a mechanic during the 1914-18 war in France and Belgium.
Cheerful and energetic, Mrs. Archer [sic] has little to tell of her life except hard work. She entered domestic service as a girl of twelve and stayed until she was married at 22. We have lived in this cottage 41 years and I don't want to leave it," she said.
She does all the housework and enjoys working in her delightful little flower garden.
        ICED CAKE
Mrs. Fowler made a special iced cake for the celebration party attended by her four sons -Frank, Jack, Percy, Eric, and four daughters - Margaret, May. Doris and Elsie.
Mr. and Mrs. Fowler have four grandsons, six granddaughters, and one great - grandson. "I have a wonderful family," declared Mrs. Fowler
The children presented their mother with a gold bracelet and their father with a gold pencil. Gifts of flowers and several telegrams were also received, including one from Mr. Fowler's brother, Mr. Jack Fowler and his family, in New Zealand.
